Did anyone catch House last night?
Our household is obsessed with this show. Ok, Mary Bullock doesn't care because she is always asleep. But I know when she gets older, she will love it. Good thing we have seasons 1-4 on DVD just waiting for the day when she understands sarcasm.
Last night, the patient happened to be a blogger. Now, if you watch this show, or any kind of mystery drama, you know that the first, oh...four? five? diagnoses are bound to be wrong. In the end, it wasn't the many and sordid details she put in the blog that led to the answer, but the one detail she left out.
Anyway, some very interesting ideas about connection, community and intimacy were thrown out for chewing on.
When I first jumped into blogland last summer, I didn't really understand that dimension of blogging at all. What I really wanted was something to do with my brain. Motherhood, while many times physically and emotionally taxing, is not rocket science, after all. I also wanted to write, which has always been cathartic for me. Lastly, but most importantly, I wanted to do something that made me feel the opposite of how reading the vitriolic Rants & Raves section of the newspaper made me feel. And Voila! Birthday Things was hatched.
Not that what I'm doing here is rocket science. I consider deleting everything about once a week. I could keep my own private list of things that I love. I could use my time putting together albums of baby pictures instead. But I like sharing it with you, even if you never comment. [However, if I ever need a heart valve replaced as in House and write a blog about it, there will not be a group vote on the type of treatment I will receive. I don't like you that much.]
More than that, the other blogs that I read have inspired me in a few different areas of my life. There's nothing like reading NieNie to make me quit my whining and start looking for something to love about my life, you know? Because in the grand scheme, having a cold [even your fourth cold in three months] just ain't that bad.
I certainly get a different perspective than I would otherwise, bopping along here in my own little corner of the universe.
And if you read this far, you deserve a picture.
[Mary Bullock has decided to move her diaper reorganization operation from the nursery closet to the living room floor. She hopes this is no inconvenience to anyone trying to walk around here.]
That's all of my rambling for today. Feel free to add your two cents.

Come on, Spring!
Listen, I don't get on the blog to complain, but can I just take one moment to say...Mary Bullock and I are both sick. Again. This makes the fourth cold for each of us in three months. Just when I start to celebrate breathing through my nostrils again, BOOM. Needless to say, I am ready for cold and flu season to take a hike.
Ahem. Moving on.
Yesterday, we got a small dose of spring at the Amelia Island Garden Show & Farmers Market. We packed up our tissues (no, really) and drove up in the morning. It was such a gorgeous day outside, and all of the blooming plants inspired me to get going on the empty pots on my front porch. Maybe I won't kill anything this year.
The farmers market was MB's favorite.

Well, right after the Butterfly Encounter
and the playground.
Who wouldn't love sliding down a frog's mouth, really?
She also dug the pork sandwich she had for lunch, even though it was Georgia BBQ, according to her Daddy.
Can you guess what happened after all that excitement? I bet you can.
Great trip! I'm praying for more beautiful days like this and for clear nostrils to breathe in this warm spring air. Today is a good start! Bring on that high of 74!
[Also: Please vote in the poll that appears to the upper right. I need input. I usually get my input from Lee, but his was, and I quote: "Do it if you want to. But if you don't want to, don't do it." Well spank you very little.]

Friday Favorites, on Thursday
I know, I'm late today. Thanks for pointing that out, sweet, patient sister-o-mine.
If it tells you anything about how our day has been, Mary Bullock is back in her crib. This almost never happens in the late afternoon, and when it does, you can bet what came before it wasn't pretty. So thanks for waiting patiently [or not so patiently].
Anyway, I thought I would rectify my tardiness today by being SUPER EARLY on tomorrow's post. How's that?
Favorite new iphone app:
Favorite blog post of the week: here. And by favorite I mean, in a bittersweet, had tears running down my face, break-my-heart kind of way. Have you been reading Design Mom's pregnancy series? I have loved them even more than I thought I would. It's amazing to me what women go through to become mothers. It's not for the faint of heart, that's for sure.
Favorite song of the week:
[Excuse those cheese-bo pictures in the background, please.]
Did I tell you I re-joined the gym? Best decision ever. Don't know why I didn't do it long ago. Perhaps I would be carrying around less baggage, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I've found that I run better while listening to the Natasha Bedingfield Pandora station. I discovered this song this week on the treadmill, and I've been meaning to email it to Lee but forgot. So here you go, Bubba. [You and Everyone Else.]
Favorite Etsy Find:
Is it Friday yet?
[Update: Head on over to The Other Mama to see what some other mamas' favorites are this week!]

It's an iphone to iphone text messenger. It costs $.99, but otherwise your texts [to other iphone users] are free. This is especially important since in my 2nd month of iphone use, I way exceeded my limit. Who knew I texted so much? I didn't. Thanks for the tip, Leigh!

Actually I found this a while ago, then it sold out, and now it's back! If we didn't need to tear apart our house this year, I would totally buy it. But since we do have to do that, and then we actually pay for the tearing apart and subsequent re-doing, you are free to purchase this for yourself. Just don't tell me. [Or wear it around me.] [Unless you are evil.][so, if I see you wearing this, I will just assume you are evil, and I won't need to actually say we are no longer friends, ok?] But isn't it pretty?
Favorite MB of the week: [Since I know that's what you really came to see anyway.]
Double fisting.
Nice.

Why I Want* a New Camera Reason #432
So that I can adequately display for you the sheer crack-headedness of my baby's post-nap hairdo.
For now, these will have to do.
For now, these will have to do.
[*Notice that's a want, not a need. I am making progress.]

Duh, thanks Google!
I guess this solves the mystery. Dang it! We were both right.
To market, to market to buy a fat pig;
Home again, home again, jiggety-jig.
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog;
Home again, home again, jiggety-jog.
To market, to market, to buy a plum cake;
Home again, home again, market is late.
To market, to market, to buy a plum bun;
Home again, home again, market is done.
To market, to market, a gallop a trot,
To buy some meat to put in the pot;
Three pence a quarter, a groat a side,
If it hadn't been killed it must have died

Jiggity Jig/Jog
[So, Lee and I have a disagreement that perhaps you can weigh in on. Did your grandparents ever sing "home again, home again jiggity jig [jog]"when you were little?
Well MY grandmother always said jiggity JIG, which makes perfect sense to me, and Lee's grandmother always said jiggity JOG.
Please settle this dispute for us before Mary Bullock ends up very confused.]
Anyway, I'm back from Nashville! It was a great weekend that started out with the most interesting seatmates on my flight. I ended up with these six roses,
one for each of the six of us. The woman who got the rest of them was the girlfriend/ex-wife of one of my seatmates. I told you it was interesting.
The rest of Friday night was spent squealing with laughter at decibels that I'm pretty sure only dogs can hear. I think we had some wine. Rachel, do you remember if we had any wine?
Saturday involved stuffing ourselves silly at Monell's, shopping in Franklin, cupcakes, and naps. Sadly, we are not the spry young women we used to be.
We also went to the Help Haiti Live concert on Saturday night at the Ryman.

What an awesome concert at an awesome venue! Ya'll. We got to see Alison Krauss and Union Station. We were in the balcony, but it still felt really close. [I think that makes Alison and me BFFs now.] And I don't know if you saw my facebook status, but Taylor Swift was sitting in the audience a few rows away.
So, an amazing weekend with the girls. And, I have to tell you that Lee did an amazing job with Moon Beam this weekend. They went to the Jacksonville Arboretum, explored the Cummer Museum, and I somehow managed to come home to a clean house. Lee says it was easy peasy.
I told him I would take that under advisement.
